- Panel Discussion with audience Q&A
- Chair: Professor Jonathan Carapetis AM
Medical research has been front and centre of Australia’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, saving thousands of lives. But what role will medical research play in the nation’s recovery from the pandemic?
In this session, the expert panel will explore the future of medical research as we emerge from the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic. Are we investing in the right capabilities and the right health areas to prepare us for the next big, unexpected health challenge on the horizon? Can we better coordinate government funded research to ensure we are addressing the needs of the nation? What have we learned about the way we conduct research during the pandemic that will have long-lasting positive impacts?
Join the panel as they discuss the successes, challenges and opportunities for health and medical research in rebuilding post-pandemic Australia. They will also put forward suggestions for how we, as a sector, can ensure the nation is ready for any future health challenge that comes our way.
